15-19 MARCH: FALLAS
During these days the Fallas festivities are celebrated and the city is filled with monuments, music, festivities, joy and lots of colour.
In our city there are 6 Fallas commissions which, in order of foundation, are the following:
–Falla Portal de Valldigna (1976): Web Falla Portal, Facebook Falla Portal.
–Falla Cambro (1979): Facebook Falla Cambro
–Falla La Via (1981): Web Falla La Via, Facebook Falla La Via
–Falla La Dula (1984): Facebook Falla La Dula
–Falla Passeig (1985): Facebook Falla Passeig
–Falla Prado (1987): Facebook Falla Prado
There is also the Federation of Fallas Junta Local Fallera which is in charge of organising the common events in which all the Fallas commissions participate. Facebook Junta Local Fallera
This festival is a very important tourist attraction, as it is classified as a festival of International Tourist Interest. There are many Fallas events that take place, but there are some that are fixed:
14-15 March the planting takes place.
The act of setting up the Fallas monuments. Both the large and children’s monuments must be set up before 8:00 a.m. on the 17th, at which time the jury will be present to judge them.
17 March.
On the afternoon of the same day, the awards ceremony for the various fallera commissions will take place in the Plaza Mayor.
18 March.
This is the day of the offering to the Mare de Déu dels Desemparats, patron saint of the city of Valencia, one of the most emotional events of these festivities. Each fallero offers a bouquet of flowers to the Virgin, with which a spectacular floral mantle is made.
19 March San José.
On this day the fallas are burnt and the festivities come to an end. It consists of the burning of all the monuments. Each of the fallas closes the festivities with a firework display and, afterwards, the monuments are burnt.
